About Band Day

• Designed as a festival opportunity for bands of all levels, participating ensembles will
  
• perform in WP’s Shea Auditorium
  
• receive written and recorded feedback and a recording of your performance
  
• participate in a 20-minute clinic with one of our clinicians
  
• listen to other participating ensembles
• have the opportunity to listen to the WP Band perform
  

Schedule

all events take place in Shea Center for the Performing Arts

8:30 AM-11:30 AM- Performance slots for 4 ensembles (8:30, 9:15, 10:00, 10:45)

11:45 AM- Performance by the WP Chamber Winds

12:00 PM- Lunch Break- You and Your students are invited to eat in our Student Center!

1:00 PM-5:15 PM- Performance slots for 7 ensembles (1:00, 1:45, 2:15, 3:00, 3:45, 4:30, 5:15)

5:30 PM- Performance by the WP Chamber Winds

5:45 PM- Event Concludes

About the Clinicians

Rebecca Vega holds music degrees from California State University, Long Beach and Eastern Michigan University. Rebecca is an associate professor at Caldwell University where conducts the marching band, wind ensemble, flute ensemble and reed ensemble. In addition, she also teaches flute and music education courses. She is a member of the UpTown Flutes which has performed at several National Flute Association Conventions throughout the US, the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall. She is a founding member of the trio Terzetta that performs works for flute, cello and piano. Along with teaching band at many levels, she has conducted flute classes at Verona Summer Music Camp and Interlochen Music Camp. She performed in Spain with the International Flute Orchestra in 2013. She lives in Verona, NJ with her husband and two children.

Teresa Purcell-Giles joined the faculty at William Paterson University in 2021 and serves as Director of Bands/Assistant Professor of Music and Flute. In her role at WP, Dr. Purcell-Giles conducts the William Paterson Wind Symphony, teaches applied flute, advanced conducting and coordinates the instrumental area applied studies.

Prior to her appointment at William Paterson, she was Director of Bands at Oklahoma Baptist University, and taught 5th-12th grade bands in the public schools of Georgia and Kansas.

Purcell-Giles holds degrees from the University of Oklahoma (D.M.A. Wind Conducting, 2017), Kansas State University (M.M. Instrumental Conducting, 2011) and the University of Texas at El Paso (B.M. Music Education, 2007). Her primary conducting teachers were Frank Tracz and Bill Wakefield, and she studied flute with Melissa Colgin-Abeln and Mary Lee Cochran.

Dr. Purcell-Giles is active as a clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor across the country, working with both concert bands and marching ensembles. She has presented nationally on topics ranging from engaging audiences through interactive performances to wellness and injury prevention for conductors, and in 2016, was invited to guest conduct the United States Army Band Pershing's Own as part of their annual Conductor's Workshop.

She holds professional affiliations with the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Educators, New Jersey Music Educators, the National Flute Association and is an honorary member of Tau Beta Sigma and Kappa Kappa Psi.
